Gathering feedback from students is crucial for the menu building process. Through taste tests as part of the SFE Taste Trailblazers program, we’re able to introduce students to potential new menu options from a variety of SFE’s own culinary concepts. Our experiences with them trying different foods and providing their input regarding the taste has allowed us to better gauge their personal preferences. When it comes time to build menus for them, we understand what they’re looking for!

Giving students a voice in their menu building process is important if you want them to participate at breakfast and lunch time. As Taste Trailblazers, PISD students are helping dictate what is provided on their menus each day, one taste test at a time.

Getting Students Involved

With culinary concepts like Adobe Grill, Bella Cibo Italian Street Food, Creole’s Cookery, Edo Roll, Good Pho You, Hey Mon Caribbean Café, Red Dragon, Yaya’s Mediterranean and many more, students who participate are treated to a well-rounded, diverse food experience that includes flavors from all over the world.

Taste tests from the 23-24 school year included Denver omelets, apple galette streusels, scones, and lunch entrées like cheesy chilaquiles, beef stroganoff, pozole, and chicken gyros. Pozole was so well liked that it ended up as part of our lunch menu cycle at all levels!

Between student surveys, special menu food truck days, and the Taste Trailblazers program, we’re learning each day what our students love to eat the most.

Pozole Y Mas

One of the biggest benefits of the Taste Trailblazers program is it allows our foodservice department to personally interact with our customers! Taste test events provide a safe environment for kids to try new foods and make new friends.

The more involvement from students, teachers, and administrators. the more excitement generated for the program. We’re all here to encourage our young eaters to get excited about being adventurous at lunch time. One bite can lead to a healthy eating habit for a lifetime and promote healthy food choices for the entire school community.
